Federal Council breaks off InstA negotiations

The first domino has fallen

Swiss Medtech is disappointed by today's decision by the Federal Council to break off negotiations with the European Union (EU) on the Institutional Agreement (InstA). Not only does the problem remain unsolved, but the situation also endangers the bilateral path the Swiss electorate has clearly and repeatedly approved at the ballot box. The Association finds it incomprehensible that the Swiss government is not continuing efforts at the highest level to overcome differences with the EU. We call on the Federal Council to concretely communicate how it intends to mitigate the negative consequences of its decision to break off the talks. The following are of utmost importance for the Swiss medical technology industry: Barrier-free access to the EU internal market (01), access to a qualified workforce and specialists from across the globe (2) and cross-border collaboration in research (03).
