Swiss Medtech Award 2024: The top 3 nominees have been chosen

Ivoclar, Oertli Instrumente AG, and Sentec nominated for this year’s award

Three successful Swiss companies, Ivoclar (Schaan), Oertli Instrumente AG (Berneck), and Sentec (Therwil) have been nominated for this year’s Swiss Medtech Award. The jury made their decision after hearing presentations by the nomination committee who had submitted a total of 17 Swiss companies for consideration. Jury President Prof. Mirko Meboldt, ETH Zurich, praised the achievements of the top three, stating «These three established companies are groundbreaking innovators in their respective fields who have not only set technological benchmarks, but more importantly, new standards for user-centred innovation in patient care».

The top achievements of the three nominated companies

  • Ivoclar – Integrated solutions for high-quality dental applications: The Ivoclar Group, headquartered in Schaan, Liechtenstein, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of integrated solutions for high-quality dental applications. Throughout its 100-year history, the Ivoclar Group’s numerous innovations have significantly influenced the dental industry. One particularly ground-breaking technology involved the development of all-ceramic materials and the required supporting equipment. Among other things, this innovation has set new standards in esthetic dentistry and fundamentally changed the way dental laboratories, dentists, and patients interact with each other.   • Oertli Instrumente AG – Top performance in opthamology: This family run company develops, produces, and distributes surgical operating platforms, instruments, and consumables that enable surgeons and surgical staff to perform operations more easily, safely, and efficiently – ultimately achieving better results for patients. The surgical platforms manufactured in Eastern Switzerland can be used to perform cataract, glaucoma, and complex retinal surgery.   • Sentec – non-invasive respiratory monitoring for less invasive treatments: Sentec has been a market leader since 1999, providing clinicians with an efficient portfolio of technological solutions for the care of patients with respiratory diseases. Sentec has gained worldwide recognition for its digital, combined transcutaneous sensor systems that enable non-invasive and continuous monitoring of respiration and blood gas levels. Furthermore, Sentec develops, manufactures, and distributes systems and accessories for electrical impedance tomography (which enables non-invasive images of lung function), as well as percussive high-frequency airway clearance devices for patients. About the Swiss Medtech Award

Swiss Medtech first launched the Swiss Medtech Award competition in 2018. The prize money of CHF 75,000 – sponsored by the Sonova Group, Straumann Group, and Ypsomed – recognises outstanding achievements in the Swiss medical technology industry. The jury chaired by Prof. Mirko Meboldt, ETH Zurich, evaluates candidates based on patient benefit, improvements in healthcare, and technological pioneering spirit. Swiss Medtech represents around 800 members in its role as industry association for Swiss medical technology.
