Swiss Medtech Award

The Swiss Medtech Award is aimed at companies in the Swiss medical technology sector that have achieved an outstanding entrepreneurial achievement or innovation. Companies are nominated by the nomination committee, which consists of seven people whose networks collectively encompass all regions of Switzerland. The nomination committee will undertake the initial pre-selection and choose which companies to submit for jury appraisal.

The nominated companies must also fulfil formal and objective criteria to be eligible to present their achievements to the jury. The winning team is announced at Swiss Medtech Day and receives prize money valued at CHF 75,000. Reserve now to attend this interesting event on 11 June 2024.

Who can be nominated?

Nomination criteria

Candidates selected by the nominating partners must meet the following criteria.

Official criteria

All three official criteria must be fully met.

  • Medical Technology Sector
    The companies, their products and solutions must be active in the medical technology industry.
  • Market success
    Candidates must prove that the goods or services provided have already found success on the market.
  • «Swissness» factor
    The achievements and provision of services must have been developed to a significant extent within Switzerland.

Factual criteria

At least one of the following factual criteria must be met.

  • Proven patient benefit
    A new product or product line with significant patient benefits has already been launched.
  • Provision of Health care
    Public healthcare has been advanced through pioneering, groundbreaking, and innovative technologies or processes.
  • Entrepreneurial achievement
    Outstanding entrepreneurial performance has been achieved in the recent past.

The following steps are part of the evaluation process. The nominees are asked to save the dates.

Upcoming steps

Nomination period
The nominating partners will make their pre-selection by December 2023.
Jury meeting
Until end of March 2024 the jury will select three companies to proceed to the next round.
Jury hearing
April 2024
The shortlisted candidates each present their achievements to the jury.
Award ceremony
11 June 2024
The winner will be announced and present their innovation live on stage during Swiss Medtech Day, Switzerland's most important medical technology conference.

About Swiss Medtech Award

In 2018, Swiss Medtech launched the Swiss Medtech Award together with the prize sponsors Lichtsteiner Foundation, Straumann Group and Ypsomed. The award recognizes outstanding achievements in the Swiss medical technology industry. In 2021, the Sonova Group could be won as a fourth award sponsor. Jointly with the others, they agreed to raise the prize money to 75.000 Swiss francs as of 2022.

The prize is awarded once a year to a carefully selected winner that has convinced the jury, chaired by Prof. Mirko Meboldt, ETH Zurich, in a two-stage evaluation process. The criteria assessed by the jurors are patient benefit, contribution to improving healthcare, and technological pioneering spirit. The winning team will be announced and celebrated at Swiss Medtech Day, the most important event for the Swiss medical technology industry.
